Two all-weather pitches created to meet demand
Published: Tuesday 30 November 2021
Two new all-weather pitches have now been completed at Eastfield Lifestyles Centre in Rutherglen.
The project reconfigured and resurfaced six 5-a-side pitches, turning them into two 7-a-side pitches, as the demand for 5-a-side has now reduced and 7-a-side pitches are the more desired pitch size for training and recreational football. The pitches are FIFA/World Rugby grade surfaces.
The pitches will be available for community use as well as being utilised by the adjacent Trinity High School.
The investment of £250,000 was funded from council capital money.
Chair of the Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “We are always looking at anything that can improve health and wellbeing across South Lanarkshire, and the investment in these pitches is a real boost for sport across Rutherglen and the wider area.”
And the chair of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Councillor Peter Craig, added: “The pitches will be a tremendous asset for Eastfield Lifestyles Centre and Trinity High School, allowing a range of sports to be played all year round.”
