Plan ahead before coming to Strathclyde Park fireworks
Published: Wednesday 2 November 2022
Everyone coming along to our public fireworks display on Saturday 5 November is being advised to allow plenty time to get there.
With the event expected to be very busy and with limited parking in the park, South Lanarkshire Council and North Lanarkshire Council who are jointly organizing the event, are suggesting that you arrive early to enjoy the food and music.
Councillor Robert Brown, the chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, said: “We hope as many people as possible come along to this fantastic Bonfire Night celebrations at Strathclyde Park. And we hope everyone will take advantage of everything that is on offer at the park and come along early to make sure you have as much fun as possible.
“But, as we expect the event to be very well attended please plan your journey and take advantage of all the parking that has been put in place. Or take advantage of the public transport in the area or walk along to what will most certainly be a great night out for all.”
Travelling by public transport or parking further away and walking is also strongly advised to avoid delays in getting into the park for the bonfire being lit at 5.30pm followed by the fireworks display starting at 6.30pm.
Food outlets will be open from 4.30pm to 8pm at the Watersports Centre concourse, with music playing in the area.
However, there will be no funfair at the Watersports Centre but M&D’s, Scotland’s Theme Park, will be open for business as usual from 10am to 10pm with a special online wristband offer. Two food outlets will also be located at the foreshore car park.
The road through the park will be open from 4.30pm to allow parking, but the beach car park will be closed.
Police Scotland will manage traffic entering and leaving the event. At the main entrance to the park, there will be no right turn from Hamilton Road South, and no straight on or right turn from Airbles Road. Traffic coming from these directions will be directed towards Hamilton, round the roundabout and back to turn left into the park.
A number of roads around the park will be closed and no waiting or loading restrictions in place from 12-noon on the day, including Tinkers Lane, Greenacres and Braedale Avenue. Traffic wardens will be in operation in the streets around the park to enforce these restrictions.
The tunnel from Hamilton into the park will be open until 6.30pm. From then, it will only be open for people exiting the park.
Additional parking is available in Hamilton this year at Hamilton Palace Sports Grounds and Low Parks Museum, South Lanarkshire Council's overflow car park at the rear of Aldi, Keith Street and High Patrick Street. The usual restrictions and fees will be lifted in these car parks for the evening.
Disabled parking spaces are available in the main car park, beside the Watersports Centre, and is bookable on a first come, first served basis. Call 01698 402060 for a pass.
Glow-in-the-dark wristbands are available for children to wear at the event to help reunite parents and children if they become separated. These are available in advance from the Civic Centre, Strathclyde Park reception and Motherwell Library, and on the day from Strathclyde Park reception and event stewards.
