Diamond couple made all the right moves

Jim and Anna Drain first met when they were 17 at St Francis Church Hall in the Gorbals in Glasgow.
Jim said: “Everyone went to the dancing on Saturday nights at the hall. And that’s where I first met Anna Sanderson as she was then.”
And the couple must have made all the right moves as they were engaged two years later.
They were married at St Margaret Mary’s Chapel in Castlemilk on 27 October 1962.
They lived in the southside of Glasgow for many years before eventually moving to East Kilbride in 1996 and have lived in the same house ever since.
And joining them at their home to help them celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary was South Lanarkshire Provost Margaret Cooper, who presented the couple with flowers, a special bottle of whisky and a certificate on behalf of the council. And Deputy Lieutenant for Lanarkshire David Russell was also on hand to present them with a certificate to mark their achievement.
Jim was a plumber by trade and in recent years has been a volunteer at the Kilbryde Kafe.
Anna worked in office accounts departments, followed by a job in a clothing factory when their family was growing up.
They have a daughter and son. Alison is married to John with their son Christopher and daughter Nicola. And Ian who is married to Mary with their son, Ryan.
Anna and Jim still enjoy going on holidays and mini breaks around the UK, as well as eating out regularly.
If you would like the Provost to attend a Diamond Wedding or 100th birthday please get in touch with the Provost’s Office.
