Clean Air Day breathes life into green travel aims

South and North Lanarkshire Councils have jointly staged an event in Strathclyde Country Park to mark National Clean Air Day.
A variety of promotional material focused on boosting walking and cycling, and improving the air that we breathe, was on offer to the hundreds who came along on Thursday (June 15).
National Clean Air Day was also used to launch a refresh of the Treasure Trail on the App WALKCYCLE4AIR. Based on eight questions that take users to a variety of landmarks and locations in both Strathclyde Park and the Palace Grounds, Hamilton, the treasure trail is live until 27 August.
And, as an added incentive, everyone who takes part and registers on the app will be entered into a free prize draw to win one of five £100 vouchers for Halfords.
Along with a variety of other hints and tips on playing your part to promote cleaner air, the App also contains 13 walking and cycling routes from both North and South Lanarkshire areas in and around the Park and Hamilton Palace grounds.
Around 150 free bike hire tokens were also given out to participants, with the remainder available to collect (114 Adult and 139 child) from the Parks' Water Sports Centre for those who couldn’t make it along on the day.
The tokens, (which are valid until the end of August) are worth one hour’s free bike hire and are designed to offer a taster to anyone thinking of taking up cycling for leisure or even for commuting. The scheme covers a variety of bicycles including those adapted for a variety of needs.
Local primary school-age children (pictured) were also down at the park to take part in some ‘bikeability’ training sessions, boosting their confidence in cycling proficiency from a young age.
