Improvement works now complete at popular park

Upgrades to a bridge and footpaths have greatly enhanced a key location in an East Kilbride park.
The Horseshoe Bridge in Calderglen Country Park is now reopened to the public, offering visitors spectacular views and allowing them to explore many of the trails which have been inaccessible while work has been taking place.
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “The main aim of the project was to ensure people can continue to enjoy and appreciate the Horseshoe Falls and to protect public access to the trails on the south side of the river well into the future.
“The improved Horseshoe bridge can be used by people with disabilities, with better paths which improve access for all to the other side of the river.
“The work has also been designed to enable maintenance vehicles and other machinery to cross to the other side of the river, which was not previously possible, thus future-proofing the park in preparation for when further funding can be secured to carry out woodland and path improvements.
“We thank all park users for their patience during these works and hope that everyone will look forward to using the bridge and continue to enjoy the Horseshoe Falls and South Trails for years to come.”
Set in over 400 acres of beautiful countryside, and attractively combining the landscape design and architectural traditions of four centuries, Torrance House and estate is the focal point of the visitor attractions at Calderglen Country Park which attracts more than 1 million visitors a year.
