New council homes at two developments
Published: Monday 19 February 2024
More than 80 new council homes are to be bought at two sites in East Kilbride and Hamilton.
South Lanarkshire Councillors agreed to the purchase of 49 homes at Brackenhill Farm, Hamilton, and 40 homes at Jacktonhall, Jackton, East Kilbride, at a cost of £17.8 million.
The 89 new homes across the two sites consist of two, three and four-bedroom homes including cottage flats, terraced, semi-detached and detached houses. The homes are anticipated to be completed by 2026 by Barratt Homes.
Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Davie McLachlan, said: “These homes are a welcome addition to the council’s housing stock and meet the varying needs of people across South Lanarkshire.
“They will contribute to the council’s ambitious target to deliver 1,300 additional homes across South Lanarkshire by 2027.
“The Strategic Housing Investment Programme, agreed in November 2023, further builds on that commitment and includes projects with a total potential capacity for delivering more than 2,400 affordable homes in South Lanarkshire to March 2029.
“We are determined to provide residents across the area with high quality homes and this is just one of the ways in which we will deliver them.”
The full report on the acquisition of the new homes can be found on the council website.
The new homes will be jointly funded by the council and through the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme.
