Wish List helps climate charity

A shelving rack will allow a charity more space to store fresh fruit and veg – thanks to the Community Wish List.
Climate Action Strathaven made a request to the list for shelving units and a dishwasher – which was fulfilled by Maxi Construction Ltd.
Alison Harley from Climate Action Strathaven said: “We're very grateful for the shelving rack we received, as it will give our community fridge more space, allowing us to offer more fresh fruit and veg.
“We've also got plans to start growing some herbs and veg ourselves, and one of the shelving units will be adapted to house seedlings, which will benefit not only the members of the community who use the community fridge, but also the mental health of the growers who will be nurturing the seedlings.
“As a charity we don't always have the funds to purchase shopfitting, so this has been a much-appreciated donation.”
Compliance Manager for Maxi Construction Ltd, Lisa Aitken, said: “We were delighted to be able to reuse commercial kitchen equipment released from a GPA Project in East Kilbride.
“We were only able to achieve this by working collaboratively with the GPA to identify equipment coming free and with South Lanarkshire Council to identify possible benefactors. We were assisted in the removal, storage, and distribution by James Scott (Kitchen Engineers) Ltd.
“As a result, several community groups throughout South Lanarkshire have benefitted from the donation of much needed equipment which might otherwise have gone to landfill or for recycling.”
The Community Wish List is supported by South Lanarkshire Council’s Community Engagement Team.
Chair of the council's Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: "This is another great example of the Community Wish List and the benefits it can bring to local communities and organisations.
"I would like to thank all the companies who have so generously donated so far."
