An after-school club is run to provide an opportunity to play football free of charge to young people who might find difficulty in joining clubs that charge a fee.

The team were ready to take the field against other schools, but were sidelined by the need for kits for the players.

The parent council appealed for assistance through the Wish List and in stepped Karing International with a donation that ensured the team could get the ball rolling.

Ian Bell, from Calderglen High School Parent Council, said: “The £500 donation has new football kits and jackets to be purchased for our boys in the u16s team.

“The whole team were very excited and grateful to Karing international for this kind donation – now they can get out there and play matches.”

Karing International supplies the council with hot and cold drinks machines and was eager to help slake the young players’ thirst for victory.

The company’s Nida Asif said: “Karing International is all about caring for its stakeholders, and also for communities. Helping them develop and contributing towards the welfare of pupils and local people is of great importance to us.

“Our project with the council is crucial to our business and has been maintained over a long term – something that is greatly appreciated by us.

“Donating towards great causes, especially those in the council’s area, makes us proud, and we wish the team every success with their matches.”

The Community Wish List is supported by South Lanarkshire Council’s Community Engagement Team.

It was created by the council to enable groups and organisations to make requests for specific support to benefit their local community, including cash donations.

Chair of the council's Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: "This is another great example of the Community Wish List and the benefits it can bring to local communities and organisations.

"I would like to thank Karing International and all of the other companies who have so generously donated so far."
