Community Hall in Bothwell to remain open
Published: Thursday 2 May 2024

Bothwell Community Hall is to remain open after a lease was granted to a local charity.
Bothwell Futures was granted a one-year lease of the hall following a meeting of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee.
The charity intends to keep open the facility as a community hall through its management and develop additional activity which will evidence a sustainable operating model and support a future CAT application.
They are also looking at ideas for the expansion of the use of the facility, in particular music and dance.
Bothwell Futures currently owns and manages Bothwell Community Hub.
Bothwell Community Hall is one of the assets that South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture were intending to withdraw from following their budget meeting in February of this year.
Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Davie McLachlan, said: “It’s great news that such a well-used facility will be able to remain open and continue to provide services to local people.
“We have worked closely with Bothwell Futures on this proposal, and I know they are keen to limit the impact of the hall's potential closure on local community groups.”
