Reminder of deadlines ahead of General Election
Published: Wednesday 12 June 2024
Some important deadlines are coming up ahead of the UK General Election.
The deadline for registering to vote is Tuesday 18 June. You can find more details on the council website.
To vote in the election, eligible voters must be aged 18 or over, have an acceptable form of voter ID and be registered by this deadline.
And the deadline for submitting a new postal vote and postal proxy applications, and for requesting changes to existing postal or proxy arrangements, is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June. More information is available on the council website.
The next key deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June – this is the deadline for submitting new applications to vote by proxy (not postal proxies or emergency proxies) and also the deadline for applying for a Voter’s Authority Certificate.
Returning Officer Paul Manning said: “We would encourage everyone to use their vote in the forthcoming UK General Election.
“Please be aware that for this election, to vote in person you will need an acceptable form of photo ID to show to the polling staff. More information on this, as well as about the election in general, is available from the council website.”
