Hamilton town centre road to be resurfaced
Published: Tuesday 9 July 2024
Improvement work is to be carried out to a road in the centre of Hamilton this month.
The stretch of Campbell Street from its junction with Chapel Street to, and including, its junction with Cadzow Lane will undergo resurfacing work.
The work will be carried out on Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, from 8am to 6pm each day. The road will be closed to general traffic while the work is being carried out, but will reopen between those two periods.
Colin Park, the council’s Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, said: “Unfortunately, the road is not wide enough to let us safely maintain access for vehicles while the resurfacing is being undertaken, which is why we will try to minimise disruption by carrying out the work over a weekend, and reopening the road overnight.
“We will maintain access for businesses, residents and those who work within the area of the closure whenever it is possible, although there may be occasions when they too will be delayed due to the work being done at any given time. However, we will keep these instances to the minimum possible.”
No on-street parking will be available on Campbell Street during the working day and all vehicles should be removed prior to the start of the road works. While work is ongoing, Traffic Marshals and site staff will be on hand to advise and assist residents.
Colin added: “We would urge all road users to take notice of this closure, plan ahead and allow extra time for travelling if you are affected by these essential works.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience they may cause, but I know local people will see a considerable benefit to the condition of the road when the works are complete.”
