Clean up continues thanks to wish list

A community group in Rutherglen is helping to keep their area tidy with help from the Community Wish List.
Burnhill Highbacks is a piece of land that has become a community garden and a safe place for young people to play.
A number of groups have been established that meet in the area, including an environmental group who currently litter pick every Saturday.
The group needed replacement litter picks as the ones they had were broken, and their wish was granted by The Compost Bag Company.
Secretary of Burnhill Highbacks Nicole Kane said: “We would like to thank the contractor for the litter pickers as these will help our young people continue litter picks on a weekly basis.”
David Stowe, Sales & Technical Manager with The Compost Bag Company Ltd, said: “When we were asked to help an environmental project, we were only too happy to provide a big bundle of litter pickers for volunteers.
“We have organised local clean-ups ourselves, with help from the local council. It was great to see the community spirit in people from all backgrounds, taking a little time out to love where we all live.
“Fighting what the wind and lazy people do with litter can seem a little endless, but the sense of achievement is well worth getting together for.”
Chair of the council's Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: "This is another great example of the Community Wish List and the benefits it can bring.
"I would like to thank all the companies for their very generous donations so far."
