Inspections highlight work of schools across South Lanarkshire
Published: Tuesday 20 August 2024

Schools across South Lanarkshire have been identified as having best practice which should be shared nationally.
Six primary schools and one secondary school were highlighted for the positive work they are doing following inspections by Education Scotland.
The schools were: Lamington Primary School, St Louise Primary School, Newfield Primary School and Nursery, Black Mount Primary School, Canberra Primary School and Nursery, Robert Owen Memorial Primary School and Uddingston Grammar.
Among the work being done which should be replicated nationally, was the importance of partnership working with parents/carers to provide all children with equitable opportunities to learn.
Also highlighted was the effectiveness of the schools ongoing self-evaluation journey which is led and strongly influenced by children, staff, families and partners.
Ensuring that wellbeing is a central feature of the schools work, an effective secondary school transition and teachers’ highly effective use of technology were just some of the other areas highlighted.
A total of 16 schools were inspected by Education Scotland during 2023/24, with more than 97% of them rating either excellent, very good or good (the three highest brackets available for inspection).
Chair of the council’s Education Resources Committee, Councillor Lynsey Hamilton, said: “It was fantastic to hear how well so many of our schools are doing following a number of recent Education Scotland inspections.
“The fact that seven schools were identified as having teaching methods and practices that should be replicated nationally just shows how well our schools are performing right across South Lanarkshire.
“It’s all very encouraging and I am sure our excellent staff will continue to build on this success and ensure South Lanarkshire schools continue to set the standard across Scotland.”
