Funding secured to help improve health and well-being

A project based in Hamilton is on the move thanks to funding of nearly £10,000 from the Can Do Community Challenge Fund.
The MorphFit Gentle Movement Project applied for financial support to develop its Meet, Move and Learn programme which, developed through community consultation, seeks to improve the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of special groups in the community.
The £9240 funding will also be used to provide accessible digital opportunities and learning as well as encouraging attendees to develop skills to help make decisions that are right for their own lives.
Sessions introduce topics such as movement, mindfulness, nutrition, and art, whilst creating opportunities to bring people together and reduce loneliness and isolation.
The project’s Engagement and Development Manager, Ashley Abercromby, said: “We are delighted that the fund will now allow us to expand our delivery of inclusive and accessible exercise plans and lifestyle interventions in a fun, friendly and welcoming setting. We support all ages with acknowledged health conditions, the ageing population, those suffering isolation and those caring for others.
Community organisations could apply to the council for grants of up to £10,000 to assist with revenue, capital funding, or a combination of both. Access to the fund has now closed.
Chair of the council’s Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: “I am delighted that the Can Do Community Challenge Fund has allowed the MorphFit project to progress with its Meet, Move and Learn programme, providing physical and mental health support in such an inclusive and accessible way.”
