Lease will enable hall to reopen

A community hall in East Kilbride is to be taken over on an initial year-long lease.
Westwood Community Hall will be leased to The Westwood Community Centre and will operate as a sports facility, community hall and offices.
It is one of the assets that South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture were intending to withdraw from following their budget meeting in February of this year.
A decision on renewal of the lease will be determined by the council, based on evidence of community benefits.
Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Davie McLachlan, said: “It’s great news that Westwood Community Hall will be reopened and provide a valuable resource for the local community in East Kilbride.
“Approving this lease allows the organisation to assess the viability of the proposal and develop plans for a future, longer term agreement or purchase.”
The lease will enable the group to operate the facility whilst developing an application for a longer lease in future via the full Community Asset Transfer (CAT) process.
