Pitches and pavilion to be taken over by rugby club

A local rugby club is to deliver a significant boost to the sport in East Kilbride.
East Kilbride Rugby Football Club (EKRFC) will take over the pitches and pavilion at Dunedin following approval of their Community Asset Transfer (CAT) application.
The club, formed in 1968, are particularly interested in the development of youth, female and disabled rugby and see the Dunedin site as a key part of this plan.
The pitches and pavilion have been dormant for a number of years and the board of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture have confirmed they are happy to transfer the site under Community Asset transfer and are supportive of the objectives.
The Dunedin site will complement EKRFC’s existing offering at Calderglen Park, which no longer has the capacity to deal with demand.
EKRFC President Brendan McNulty said: “EKRFC is delighted to have the Asset Transfer of Dunedin Park confirmed.
“The facility will allow us to ensure that sufficient training and playing resource is available for all our Academy teams and our ladies section.”
Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor David McLachlan, said: “It’s great news that the rugby club will take over Dunedin pitches and pavilion, providing opportunities for people of all ages to play the sport.
“I am sure they will be able to build on their many years of success in East Kilbride and I wish them all the best with their new facilities.”
