Celebrating Autism Awareness Week
Published: Friday 4 April 2025
A new Autism Pride flag has been proudly raised at South Lanarkshire Council’s headquarters in Hamilton.
This year’s new flag colours display the infinity sign in gold which represents the inherent value brought by autistic children, young people and adults of all ages to the diversity of the entire South Lanarkshire community.
It is the seventh year in a row a flag has been raised by South Lanarkshire’s ARCH (Autism Resources Coordination Hub) to mark Autism Awareness week, which takes place from 2 to 8 April.
The Town House in Hamilton will also be lit in gold to celebrate Autism Awareness Week 2025.
Professor Soumen Sengupta, Director of Health and Social Care for South Lanarkshire, said: “We are proud to once again be flying a flag outside our council HQ which demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting and celebrating the strength that comes from valuing the diversity of our communities.”
ARCH Co-ordinator Ramon Hutchingson said: “The quieter voice of our autistic people will continue to be heard by South Lanarkshire’s commitment to delivering autism-informed services and supports.”
The flag was raised with enthusiastic help from autism community members, Amy (aged 9) and Emma (aged 5) Hosie, Bob Strachan (aged 72) and a class group from Chatelherault Primary School.
