Pupils’ voices heard as school wins award

A school in East Kilbride has scooped a prestigious national award.
Duncanrig Secondary School won the Secondary Schools category in the Success Looks Different awards, which were created by the Inclusion Ambassadors, a group of secondary school-aged pupils from across Scotland who have a range of additional support needs.
Now in their third year, the Success Looks Different Awards contribute towards the Scottish Government’s Additional Support for Learning Action Plan.
The Inclusion Ambassadors were particularly impressed with how strongly pupils' voices came through in Duncanrig Communication Support Base’s application.
They were also inspired by the vibrancy and detail on display in the school wall displays that share pupils' achievements, testimonials, experiences and other creative pieces.
Tamsin Graham, Depute Head, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be receiving this award for the pupils in our school.
“Our pupils are amazing, and we take every opportunity to celebrate their successes and achievements so it is fantastic we can do this at a national level as winners in the secondary school category.
“Thank you to Children in Scotland for creating this award and allowing our young people to shine.”
Head of Education Stewart Nicolson said: “Congratulations to everyone at Duncanrig on winning this award, it is a fantastic reflection of the inclusive work that goes on in the school.”
