Major improvements on way for road in East Kilbride
Published: Tuesday 13 May 2025
A number of improvements are to be made to a road in Thorntonhall, East Kilbride.
The works on Peel Road, which include lining, drainage improvements and carriageway resurfacing, will be split into three phases in a bid to minimise disruption to residents.
The first phase will see lining works taking place from Tuesday 20 May until Thursday 29 May and will take place on Peel Road from the A727 Busby Road to Thorntonhall train station. Stop and go traffic control will be in place for the duration of the works.
The second phase, from Monday 2 June to Friday 13 June, will include drainage improvements and carriageway resurfacing which will mean Peel Road will be closed from Hayhill Road to Holehouse Road.
During this phase, a signed diversion route will be in place which will be B764 Eaglesham Road, Redwood Drive, A727 Glasgow Southern Orbital Route and A727 East Kilbride Road.
The third and final phase, from Monday 16 June to Friday 20 June, will see carriageway resurfacing taking place which means Peel Road will be closed from Holehouse Road to Thorntonhall train station.
During this phase, a signed diversion route will be in place which will be B764 Eaglesham Road, Redwood Drive, A727 Glasgow Southern Orbital Route and A727 East Kilbride Road.
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause to road users.
“We would request that all road users allow additional time for all journeys which involve the use of Peel Road during the times indicated and that they plan their routes accordingly.
“We are sure residents will appreciate the long-term benefits of the improvements when the final phase has been completed.”
