Free health walk coming to Lanark
Published: Wednesday 28 May 2025
A new walk is being added to the already extensive Get Walking Lanarkshire routes available across South and North Lanarkshire.
On Thursday 19 June a new weekly health walk gets underway in Lanark.
Setting off at 11am every Thursday, participants will meet outside the CCI Langloch Farm, Hyndford Road, ML11 9TA.
Lasting no longer than an hour, the routes avoid tricky terrain, allowing everyone to walk at a gentle pace suitable to their own abilities, age and fitness levels.
David Booth, the council's Executive Director of Community and Enterprise Resources, said: “Walking really is great for improving your overall fitness, health and wellbeing.
“Getting outside into the fresh air is also a great way to improve your mood, reduce stress and help you sleep better.
“It is also very a very sociable activity - walking and talking at the same time go together very well.”
After the weekly walks there will be an opportunity to go to a café for a cuppa and a chat. Please book for your first walk by contacting Get Walking Lanarkshire on 07903 358424 or getwalkinglanarkshire@northlan.gov.uk
You can also use these contact details if you’d like to become a volunteer health walk leader. No previous experience is required, just a friendly nature and enthusiasm for walking. Free training will be provided.
More info is also available on the council’s Get Walking Lanarkshire page. The health walks programme can also be found on www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/getwalking
Get Walking Lanarkshire is a partnership project between NHS Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Paths for All. Get Walking Lanarkshire is part funded by Transport Scotland.
