Three parks again flagged up for green excellence
Published: Thursday 17 July 2025
Three parks across South Lanarkshire are among 88 parks and open spaces across Scotland achieving a Green Flag Award this year.
Strathaven Park has won the prestigious award from environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful for the 13th year in a row now, while Cambuslang Park and Castlebank Park have now won it 12 and 10 years respectively.
The International Green Flag Award acts as a benchmark for clean, safe and well-maintained parks and green spaces, recognising the very best of our country’s outdoor areas.
Councillor Robert Brown, the Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources, said: “I am delighted that these three parks have been rewarded such an accolade once again this year.
“It is a real testament to all the hard work and dedication of our council grounds teams and the friends of the parks groups.
“Here in South Lanarkshire we have a range of great parks, from our green flag award parks to the smaller local ones.
“Our green spaces are much more than lovely places to visit. They are places where people can go for exercise, to improve their mental health and quite simply provide great family spaces to relax in and play.”
The international Green Flag Award is administered in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful and acts as a benchmark for recreational outdoor space.
Jamie Ormiston, Training and Accreditation Coordinator at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “We’re delighted to announce the winners of the 2025 Green Flag Awards and even more so at the increase in numbers from last year’s total.
“Parks across Scotland are vital spaces for people of all ages to reconnect with nature and I’m delighted we once again have winners all over the country – including plenty of new areas – for people to enjoy during the summer months.”
Eighty-eight parks and green spaces have won a Green Flag Award this year, an increase of eight on the Scottish 2024 total. Across the UK there were 2,251 winners in 2025, an increase of 23 on last year’s total.
