That is why the council is urging everyone to bin their rubbish or take it home and dispose of it safely so that dogs like Elvis (pictured) don’t end up getting patched up by a vet.

Littering is a serious form of anti-social behaviour that affects each of us so the council continues to tackle the issue and those who create it, head on.

Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Davie McLachlan, said: “Anti-social behaviour, in all its forms, is unacceptable.

“So please, do not throw away any rubbish, especially glass which can, all too often sadly, injure children, pets and wild animals too.

“There really is a simple way to stop all this - do not throw away rubbish inappropriately in the first place.”

Anti-social behaviour issues such as litter, graffiti and vandalism can also be reported directly to the council’s dedicated team on 0800 389 1105 or by email. Alternatively, for criminality, contact Police Scotland on 101 or, in an emergency, call 999.

Councillor Robert Brown, chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee said: “Our grounds teams work hard throughout the year, wasting so much time and money clearing up rubbish that could have and should have been disposed of responsibly.

“So please, dispose of glass and other rubbish responsibly, either in the many litter bins we have in our parks and open spaces, or take it home to be placed in your recycling bins.

“It’s your community, your people and your space. So, let’s all enjoy it together – as the council’s litter campaign says – It’s your place.”
