Have your say on country parks
Published: Friday 29 August 2025
The next phase of consultation is underway on improvements to South Lanarkshire’s two country parks.
The local community and stakeholders are being asked to shape, comment and ask questions about the future of Chatelherault and Calderglen Country Parks, based in Hamilton and East Kilbride respectively.
You can take part in the survey online. There are also a number of posters at both parks, with further details, and a QR code which will take park users straight to the survey.
Staff will also be on hand to answer questions and help people complete the survey at both parks on Friday 29 August, Tuesday 2 September and Thursday 4 September between 11.30am and 2pm.
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “South Lanarkshire’s country parks are hugely popular with local people and visitors alike.
“Our vision for our country parks is to develop a develop a strategy for investment which establishes them as regional destinations.
“We want them to offer vibrant and welcoming facilities which are linked to and contribute towards the surrounding communities.
“To achieve this, we need local people and park users to tell us what they want to see developed in the country parks.
“The parks are very much at the heart of our communities, and I know they attract visitors from far and wide because of the unique attractions and facilities they provide.
“I would encourage people to take part in this survey which will be crucial for us to develop 10-year masterplans for both Chatelherault and Calderglen Country Parks, with us looking to make investment where resources allow.”
Developments could include improvements to pedestrian access, traffic management, visitor areas, play opportunities and events infrastructure while protecting our woodlands, landscape and historic built assets.
The consultation will remain open until Monday 8 September at midnight.
