Major improvements on way for road in East Kilbride

Improvement works are to be carried out on a road in East Kilbride from this weekend.
The works on A749 Glasgow Road, East Kilbride (south bound carriageway to East Kilbride only) will only be carried out over the weekend in a bid to minimise disruption to commuters, residents and businesses.
From Saturday 20 September to Sunday 21 September carriageway resurfacing will take place which will mean the A749 Glasgow Road (southbound only) will be closed from Greenlees Road to the roundabout at Stewartfield Way.
A signed diversion route will be in place which will be A730 Cathkin Bypass, A730 Willow Boulevard (Cathkin Relief Road), A730 Fernhill Road, A730 Mill Street, B768 Main Street Rutherglen, A724 Cambuslang Road, A724 Glasgow Road, A724 Main Street Cambuslang, A724 Hamilton Road, A724 Glasgow Road Blantyre, A725 East Kilbride Expressway, A749 Kingsway, A749 East Kilbride Road and the B759 Greenlees Road.
Access with be maintained for all residents of Nerston Village and commuters to the Kingsgate Retail Park for the duration of the works, with signed diversions in place.
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause to road users.
“We would request that all road users allow additional time for all journeys which involve the use of A749 Glasgow Road during the days indicated and that they plan their routes accordingly.
“We are sure road users will appreciate the long-term benefits of the improvements when the work has been completed.”
