Major improvements on way for road in Hamilton
Published: Monday 6 October 2025
Major resurfacing works are to take place on a road in Hamilton.
The A723 Strathaven Road, from its northern junction with Galloway Avenue to (and including) the roundabout at Ambleside Rise, will be closed from 8am on Sunday 12 October until 6pm on Saturday 18 October.
The road is not sufficiently wide enough to safely maintain vehicle access while the works are being undertaken, so will be closed from its junction with Ballantyne Drive to its northern junction with Galloway Avenue.
General traffic will be unable to travel through the closure during the works, although access for local businesses and residents within the closure will be maintained where possible. There may be instances where local access and egress will be significantly delayed depending on the status and progress of works on site. Traffic Marshals and site staff will be there to advise and assist where access is required during the working day.
A diversion will be in place via A723 Strathaven Road, A723 Commercial Road, A726 Glasgow Road, A726 Strathaven Road, A725 Kingsway, A725 Hamilton Road, B7012 High Blantyre Road, A724 Burnbank Road, Almada Street, A72 Muir Street, A72 Palace Grounds Road, A723 Blackswell Lane, A723 Duke Street, A723 Portland Place, A723 Low Waters Road and A723 Strathaven Road and vice versa.
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may occur during these essential road improvement works.
“We would ask that all road users allow additional time for all journeys which involve the use of A723 Strathaven Road, Hamilton during the times indicated and that they plan their journey accordingly.
“The works have been arranged during the school October week holiday in a bid to minimise disruption.
“We are sure road users will appreciate the long-term benefits of the improvements when the work has been completed.”
