Local Action Fund will help community grow

Grow Uddingston has been awarded £25,000 to let the town’s heritage trail, orchard and gardens flourish.
Funding for the charity group is a result of the administration budget passed by the council with an additional £50,000 allocated to each of the 20 council wards.
Councillors in each ward were asked to come up with proposals for how the new Local Action Fund should be spent, with final decisions to be taken by the Executive Committee.
The members of Ward 16 have now agreed the proposal to allocate the remaining half of the fund (£25,000) to Grow Uddingston.
Funding has provisionally been allocated as follows:
- £9000 – Heritage Trail
- £7000 – Community Orchard
- £9000 – Community Garden
The community orchard and garden are subject to arrangements being agreed by Grow Uddingston for the use of suitable local sites.
Failing this, funds will be used towards the Heritage Trail or other activities to support the work of Grow Uddingston for the benefit of the local community.
Bothwell Futures was granted the other £25,000 earlier in the year.
Council Leader Joe Fagan said: “The Local Action Fund was agreed as part of our Building Back Budget and is designed to help each community with projects that might not cost a lot of money but can have a lasting and worthwhile impact for everyone who lives there.
“Local councillors will be able to gauge from their constituents where the money could be best spent. I am delighted that each Ward has been allocated £50,000, a total of £1million for all 20 Wards.
“The projects in Bothwell and Uddingston will benefit everyone in the local community.”
The elected members for Bothwell and Uddingston, Ward 16, are Councillor Maureen Devlin, Councillor Cal Johnston-Dempsey and Councillor Kenny McCreary.
