Survey to ensure young people’s voices are heard
Published: Wednesday 29 October 2025
A survey is about to get underway to find out more about the health and wellbeing of children and young people in South Lanarkshire.
Taking place during November and December, children and young people in Primary 5, Primary 6, Primary 7, and all secondary school aged children and young people are being encouraged to take part.
The survey is part of the council’s approach to Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC). This means working with children and young people to support their wellbeing.
The child or young person will be asked questions about their health and wellbeing and give their answers on a computer or tablet at school. Most pupils will complete the survey in a classroom with other pupils and an adult supervising. The survey should take around 30-50 minutes.
The responses will make sure young people’s voices are heard and help South Lanarkshire Children’s Services improve health and wellbeing supports for all children/young people.
Interim Chair of the council’s Education Resources Committee, Councillor Gavin Keatt, said: “We would like as many children and young people to complete the survey as possible. This will help us to make sure their voices are heard.
“The survey has been carefully and sensitively constructed following consultation with a range of partners, including young people themselves and parents.
“It will be anonymised, and we will require parental permission for anyone under the age of 12 to take part. Children or young people who wish to opt out of the survey can do so.”
The council website contains important information about the survey. Children and young people will get information in school about the survey. Further information for parents and carers will also go out in the Parent Portal.
