Crematorium to host annual memorial service
Published: Friday 14 November 2025
South Lanarkshire Crematorium's annual Christmas memorial service will take place this year on Sunday, 7 December.
The service creates an opportunity to come together as the season of Christmas approaches, to remember deceased loved ones.
This year, the memorial will be led by Father Martin Delaney of St Joseph’s RC Parish, and Rev Murdo Macdonald of St Andrew’s Church (linked with Livingstone Memorial Church), Blantyre.
Participants are encouraged to light a candle or place a message on the Christmas tree, and the crematorium will remain open until 4 pm for anyone who wants to drop in simply to do this.
Light refreshments will also be provided.
Councillor Robert Brown, Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources, said: “This event provides a special way to remember at a time of year when our losses are often felt the most.
"Whether your loved one has been buried or cremated, in South Lanarkshire or on the other side of the world, our service sets out to make remembrance special, creating a time for quiet reflection in a season where there is so much going on around us.
“We extend a warm invitation to anyone who could benefit from visiting the crematorium in what is a dignified, peaceful, and personal space to honour and remember.”
The memorial service takes place in South Lanarkshire crematorium, Sydes Brae, Blantyre, from 2 pm on 7 December.
