Poster competition reveals fresh new talent

A talented P4 pupil has won the first ever Go Fresh Poster Competition showcasing creativity and enthusiasm for Healthy Eating.
Rocco Johnstone, from Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in East Kilbride, scooped the top prize ahead of almost 900 other entries submitted to help promote the aims of the council’s healthy and nutritious meals programme.
At the school assembly Rocco was not only presented with his own framed poster but also received a £50 shopping voucher and a Go Fresh goodie bag while Lucy also got a framed copy of her entry, a £25 shopping voucher and a Go Fresh goodie bag.
Councillor Robert Brown, the Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, who praised the creativity on display, said: “The Go Fresh poster competition resulted in a huge number of entries with an amazing range of bright, creative, brilliant ideas.
“A huge round of applause must go to the very talented Rocco Johnstone for his winning entry. And a big congratulations must also go to Lucy Flannigan for her brilliant entry.
“To have two pupils from the one school in the top five is a wonderful achievement. Head teacher Mrs Brady and everyone else at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School must be so proud, and rightly so.”
Rocco’s entire class will also enjoy a visit from the council’s Kids Kitchen Chef, who will deliver a fun, hands-on cookery session. The experience will be supported with fresh fruit and vegetables kindly donated by the council’s supplier
Anne Goldie, Facilities Services Manager said: “Our team, along with the council’s fruit and veg supplier, had an extremely challenging time choosing the winners.
“But we all felt that Rocco's design, which will now be displayed in school dining rooms across South Lanarkshire, captured all of the criteria which was asked for.”

Head teacher Eileen Brady added: “Not only is everyone in the school delighted for Rocco but we are doubly proud as P7 pupil Lucy Flannigan’s design was Highly Commended and made the top five.”
A special congratulation should also be extended to the other three highly commended entries from Underbank and St Columbkilles primary schools.
