Primary school pupils race to the top

Crawforddyke Primary School in Carluke has become the first school in Clydesdale to win the South Lanarkshire wide Sports Hall Athletics championship.
As well as beating nine other schools in the Clydesdale area heats, the school went on to outclass 11 other primary schools from across South Lanarkshire to pick up the top award.
And if that weren't enough, the school has also been voted team of the year by the Clydesdale Sports Council.
Nick Lansdell, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture’s Chief Executive, said: “This is a tremendous achievement for all the pupils who took part in our Active Schools events.
“A special congratulations goes to the talented sports team at Crawforddyke Primary School for their dedication and competitive spirit which has ultimately lead to their overall success at this year’s sports hall competition.”
The school had previously won the Clydesdale Sports Hall Athletics competition 14 years in a row, missing out on the top spot last year by just one point!
But this year, the team's determination and efforts paid off.
Angela Gibson, Head Teacher at Crawforddyke Primary School, said: “We are blessed with some very talented athletes, who are extremely committed to their training.
“Led by our very own hero, 75-year-old John Allan, a volunteer at our school for almost 40 years, the pupils were ecstatic when they won this year’s SLC Sports Hall Athletics.
“And they were doubly ecstatic to also be honoured with this year’s Sporting Primary School of the Year Award by Clydesdale Sports Council.”

In January the school won the Clydesdale Area Final at Carluke Leisure Centre.
The school and the Clydesdale runners up then joined the other schools who qualified in each of the other three areas in South Lanarkshire to compete at the South Lanarkshire Final at the Alistair McCoist Complex, East Kilbride, in February.
Crawforddyke came out on top, beating runners up Burnside PS and St Kenneth’s PS who took third place in the very exciting and closely fought competition.
Their achievement and performances throughout 2025 attracted the judges at the 42nd Annual Clydesdale Sports Personality and Team of the Year Awards Ceremony and Sports Supper which was held at Cornhill Castle in Biggar this year.
