New permits come into force soon
Published: Friday 27 March 2026
New garden waste permits will come into effect across South Lanarkshire from Wednesday 1 April this year.
The permit applies from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.
Please note that the colour of the permit will be pink, and any bins displaying last year’s permit colour (yellow) will not be collected. The cost of a permit for the year is £46.49.
You can still apply for the permit online where you will also find more details including how to display your permit and what can be put in the bin.
Residents can purchase permits for a maximum of three bins - the same charge applies regardless of bin size (140 litre or 240 litre).
Please note - your payment will come out of your bank immediately like any other online transaction. The permit will then be printed and prepared to send out to you immediately thereafter.
Food waste will continue to be collected free of charge for households that decide not to sign up for a garden waste permit.
The scheme applies to the whole of South Lanarkshire including rural Clydesdale where many households previously did not receive a burgundy bin collection.
Executive Director of Community and Enterprise Resources, Kevin Carr, said: “Households with permits in place will see their bins collected every two weeks, except over the Christmas and New Year period.
“For households that do not wish to purchase a permit, there are many free options available such as taking items to any of our six household recycling centres or composting waste at home. Information on both of these is available on the council’s website.”
