A children’s charity has been granted a Community Asset Transfer (CAT) at a former care home.
SMILE Children’s Charity will provide support for young people suffering from complex needs across South Lanarkshire at the former Canderavon Care Home in Stonehouse.
The charity has said they will develop Canderavon into a dedicated, inclusive space designed to support children and families who need it most.
CEO and founder of SMILE Children’s Charity, Wendy Meek, said: “The successful Community Asset Transfer of Canderavon represents a significant step forward in addressing the gap in local support for families of children with complex needs.
“SMILE’s vision will create a pioneering, inclusive, community-led hub delivering respite, wellbeing support and accessible play opportunities for families who need it most.”
Executive Director of Housing and Technical Resources, Stephen Gibson, said: “This decision allows the charity to build on the fantastic work they have been doing.
“It will provide a tremendous asset for the local community and South Lanarkshire in general.”
