Improvements on way to buildings across South Lanarkshire
Published: Thursday 20 August 2026
Buildings including schools and community facilities across South Lanarkshire are to benefit from a £24 million investment following agreement on the 10-year Estates Strategy.
Community sports facilities, visitor centres, leisure centres, day care centres, primary schools and many more properties are among those that will see improvements made.
Executive Director of Housing and Technical Resources, Stephen Gibson, said: “This significant investment in council infrastructure, right across the whole of South Lanarkshire, will improve the quality, accessibility, utilisation and sustainability of our estate.
“The £24 million investment will be spread over three years, with £7.29 million spent in 2026/27, £11.7 million in 2027/2028 and £5 million in 2028/2029.”
A major focus of the strategy will be on council depot rationalisation, with £5 million from the Estates Strategy contributing to the overall cost of the project, which is estimated at £18 million.
A new community sports facility at Brancumhall Pavilion will be created, costing almost £4 million, and Lanark Racecourse Pavillion will also have a new community sports facility, costing more than £300,000.
A number of properties are to undergo condition improvement works. This may include building fabric improvements, statutory compliance works, accessibility enhancements, lifecycle replacements and energy-efficiency measures.
The money invested in these projects ranges from more than £100,000 to £1 million, depending on the level of improvements needed. Blantyre Leisure Centre (picture above) is one building that will see £1 million worth of improvements.
