Sustainable travel app gets another funding boost

The council has been awarded funding again this year to continue running the BetterPoints – Think, Move, Breathe app.
Thanks to funding from Transport Scotland People and Place Fund, the app will continue to promote active and sustainable travel by rewarding users for walking, cycling, wheeling, running, and using public transport.
Kevin Carr, the council’s Executive Director of Community and Enterprise Resource, said: “This welcome funding will allow even more people to take part in the Think, Move Breathe challenge.
“This successful campaign continues to support the council’s wider strategy to create a safe and accessible sustainable transport network as well as helping to improve air quality across South Lanarkshire and beyond.”
If you haven’t already done so you can download the app from the Better Points website.
The free BetterPoints app tracks journeys and awards points based on the distance and mode of travel. These points can be redeemed for vouchers at local businesses, donated to charities, and used to enter prize draws, creating incentives to choose sustainable travel options.
Not only will the app support more sustainable transport but it is also helping to highlight the UK-wide Catch the Bus Month, which runs throughout September. The campaign brings together bus operators, local authorities, community groups, charities, and passengers to highlight the social, economic, and environmental value of public transport.
During the coming weeks you can also boost your BetterPoints app by travelling sustainably to a wide range of events making up the Lanarkshire Climate Action Festival:

- Wednesday 9 September - Hospital 'Dr Bike' Session (East Kilbride)
- Saturday 12 September - Clydesmill Garden Festival (Cambuslang)

- Sunday 13 September - Biggar Community Garden - Nature Day (Biggar)
- Sunday 13 September - Nature’s Way: Walk, Learn, Change- A Climate Festival (Lesmahagow)
