Celebrating International Day of Older People
Published: Thursday 1 October 2026
South Lanarkshire Council is celebrating International Day of Older People which takes place today.
Created by the United Nations in 1990, this year’s UK theme is: What’s on your doorstep?
The best place to find out about support, activities and information for older people in South Lanarkshire is the Seniors Together page on the council website.
They also have a dedicated Facebook page which is regularly updated with the latest news and events for older people.
The council’s Champion for Older People, Councillor Eileen Logan, said: “We are delighted to once again be supporting International Day of Older People.
“The theme this year is particularly relevant, as we have a vast array of easily accessible activities for older people across South Lanarkshire.
“I was delighted when South Lanarkshire became the first Scottish local authority to become an Age-friendly Community more than three years ago.
“It highlighted the work being done to make our community a great place to grow older, and we continue to build on that success by offering more support, activities and information than ever before.”
Chair of Seniors Together, Catriona Mason, said: “Seniors Together is striving to make South Lanarkshire a great place to grow older.
“Have a look on the council website or our Facebook page to keep up to date with everything we offer older people in South Lanarkshire.”
