Local Transport Strategy for next decade agreed
Published: Monday 12 October 2026
A strategy which will be used to guide the transport actions and priorities of South Lanarkshire Council for the next 10 years has been agreed.
The Local Transport Strategy (LTS) 2026 to 2036 will also be used to influence the actions of a range of partner organisations who deliver aspects of transport within South Lanarkshire.
The strategy covers a number of areas, including maintenance and asset management, improving road safety, economy and regeneration, sustainable transport, walking wheeling and cycling, environment, inclusive mobility, spatial planning and technology.
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “South Lanarkshire requires a continuing and well-developed integrated transport strategy that supports all modes of travel.
“This includes not only roads and public transport, but also active travel, digital mobility solutions, and freight movements.
“A coordinated approach helps ensure that investment is targeted, infrastructure is future-proofed, and services meet the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors alike.”
Detailed consultation, including an online survey, was carried out on the draft LTS at various stages.
