New blueprint launches for Lesmahagow, Brocketsbrae and Hawksland
Published: Friday 25 October 2019
Residents of Lesmahagow, Brocketsbrae and Hawksland will launch their five-year community action plan in Lesmahagow tomorrow.
The plan explains the community’s priorities for the next five years and highlights particular projects the community would like to work on together to improve their area.
The plan can also be used as evidence by any community group seeking funding or by organisations who deliver services in that community.
The action plans are the culmination of more than six months of work by a dedicated Steering Group comprising local people. Supported by LEADER-funded Community Action Lanarkshire, the community created a tailored survey, held open drop-in sessions and detailed focus groups, all leading to the production of the Action Plan.
The plan will be launched at The Fountain in Lesmahagow on Saturday, 26 October, from 10am to 2pm, with copies of the plans available on the day, and it is hoped to see as many people as possible from these communities at the event.
Other organisations will be attending this free event and craft activities and refreshments will be available to all who stop by.
Anyone who can’t make it along, can view the plan online.
CAL Development Officer Ruth McElhinney said: “Working with the local people to help capture and set out their aspirations has been a really uplifting experience. We are looking forward to continued engagement with the communities to help develop some of the projects they identified.”
Lorna James, Head Teacher from Milton Primary School and a member of the Steering Group, said: "This action plan clearly lays out what local people would like to see happen within the community over the next five years. It was really useful and enjoyable being part of the Steering Group and a privilege to represent the children in the villages.”
