Community club scores in asset transfer

Kirktonholme playing fields and pavilion in East Kilbride are to be taken over by a popular local community club.
East Kilbride United will lease the grounds for a nominal fee from the council for the next 25 years.
The asset transfer was agreed at a meeting of the Housing and Technical Resources Committee.
Councillor Josh Wilson, the chair of the committee, said: “East Kilbride United is well known in the local area and provides a tremendous service for the community of East Kilbride and beyond.
“I am delighted that this asset transfer has been agreed and it means the club can continue to go from strength to strength.
“Councils being able to help local organisations in this way was exactly the reason why the Community Empowerment Act was introduced and I wish East Kilbride United every success in the future.”
The car park next to the pitches will continue to remain in council control.
