Rutherglen and Cambuslang councillors held a virtual meeting this week to approve new community grants.
Despite the restrictions of the pandemic South Lanarkshire is continuing to support local groups and organisations through community grants.
Meeting on Wednesday 23 February Rutherglen and Cambuslang Area Committee approved a £1000 award to support a local after school club and heard details of further grants to local groups.
Meeting via video the Committee voted to approve the grant of £1000 to Cambuslang based Upstairs Kids Klub to purchase equipment.
Councillors also heard details of the recent award of a grant for £1000 to Hope Amplified. The charity will use the funding to involve families in outdoor garden activities in Fernbrae Meadows, Rutherglen’s urban park on the former Blairbeth Golf Course site.
Also benefitting from a recent award is Whitlawburn Resource Centre Amount where £950 helped cover the cost of Christmas festivities including a Christmas meal and virtual Grotto for vulnerable and isolated families.
The final grant award reported to the committee was for £1000 presented to Fernhill Communities Together to support a food delivery service for isolated families.
This was the last time the Committee will meet in this financial year as a result members agreed permission be given for remaining grants to be awarded by the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Resources in consultation with the Chair of the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Area Committee and reported back at a later date.
To date this financial year Rutherglen and Cambuslang Area Committee Community Grants and Covid 19 response grants totalling £9,720 have been awarded and remaining funding for the year totals £16,030.
